Watching: An American in Paris

I haven’t seen a lot of movies — Back to the Future, the original Indiana Jones and Star Wars, Godfather, to name the particular few that have really cost me. So, in a desperate — or what I’d prefer to call ambitious — attempt at cinematic edification, I’ve decided to watch all the classics. It’s been going slowly, if not surely.

This past weekend, T and I watched An American in Paris with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. The film further convinced me that T’s right — movies are better when they involve singing and dancing.

Gene Kelly reminded me so much of The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman; and personally, I think Kelly was far better dressed for a guy in this movie than Leslie Caron was for a woman. Granted, his look was a bit more straightforward…

Kelly and Schuman

So casual, so carefree — and he taps!

Even though we didn’t necessarily like all of Leslie Caron’s outfits…

some pieces definitely stood out. I found this dress that reminded me so much of Caron’s top — I love that fashion never gets old.
